XCEL Program

Rhythmic Xcel is a program offered by USA Gymnastics that provides an alternative option for rhythmic gymnasts who are interested in competitive gymnastics but who may not have the opportunity to compete at the elite or junior elite levels. It was designed to promote the sport of rhythmic gymnastics and provide a competitive experience for gymnasts of all ages and skill levels.

Rhythmic Xcel practices are designed to help gymnasts develop and improve their skills, prepare for competitions, and participate in a positive and supportive team environment.

Practice Description

Warm-up

Every practice begins with a warm-up to get the gymnasts ready for training. The warm-up typically includes stretching, cardio exercises, and basic skills.

Apparatus skills

Rhythmic Xcel focuses on mastering the five apparatus used in the sport - rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon. Practices may include apparatus-specific drills and exercises to help gymnasts improve their technique.

Routine training

Rhythmic Xcel gymnasts learn and practice individual and/or group routines that include choreographed movements, leaps, balances, and throws. Practice time is dedicated to perfecting these routines and enhancing gymnasts' presentation skills.

Conditioning

Gymnastics is a physically demanding sport, so Rhythmic Xcel practices will often include conditioning training to build and maintain strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Feedback and Coaching

Rhythmic Xcel coaches provide feedback and guidance to the gymnasts to help them improve their technique, execution, and presentation skills. Feedback is given during and after practice to help gymnasts understand what they are doing well and areas in which they need to improve.

Team Environment

Rhythmic Xcel is based on encouraging a positive team environment, where gymnasts can support and motivate each other. Practices will often include team-building exercises and cooperative drills to foster teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship.

Rhythmic Xcel incorporates modified rules and routines from the elite level of rhythmic gymnastics to allow for more accessible competition for gymnasts starting at level Bronze, which is considered a beginner level, all the way up to Diamond, which is the most advanced level in the Rhythmic Xcel program.

The program offers opportunities to compete in both individual and group events. Through Rhythmic Xcel, gymnasts can learn new skills, improve their abilities, and develop confidence and teamwork, regardless of their level. Rhythmic Xcel also helps gymnasts set goals and track their progress, providing opportunities to attend local, regional, and national competitions.
